Black & Blue are Good for You!

How does one berry praise another berry?

I like you BERRY much!

—Sonali Gupta

Nature has an amazing way of providing us with the foods we need most to keep us balanced throughout the seasons.

June marks the shift from spring to summer and with it comes the rise in temperature.

It’s no wonder that berries, with their astringent and cooling nature, provide us with exactly what we need to stave off summer’s swelter.

When we become imbalanced in summer, pitta (fire element) increases, overheats the blood and can manifest in eruptions of the skin.

Blackberries and blueberries have an affinity for the blood.

Blackberries nourish the blood and are antioxidant.   They are styptic, which means that they help stop bleeding.   Blueberries clean the blood, strengthen the immune system, are antioxidant, tonifying for the kidneys and brain, nourishing for the liver, anti-inflammatory and, anti-carcinogenic.  They contain vitamin C, vitamin K, and are a good source of soluble fiber.

Both of these fruits are light and juicy. They serve to enhance sattvic qualities-peacefulness, balance, purity, harmony and, our innate goodness.

Keep calm and berry on!
