Panchakarma FAQs

Pancha Karma (PK) is one of the microcosms within the macrocosm of Ayurveda. PK actually consists of three well thought-out stages

  1. Purva Karma, the preparatory stage
  2. Panchakarma, the cleansing stage
  3. Paschat Karma, the post-cleansing stage

The preparatory and post-cleansing stages of treatment are of great importance for greater efficacy of PK itself. You are guided in all three stages of the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the five cleansing therapies of PK?
They are vamana (therapeutic vomiting oremesis), virechana (purgation), basti (enema), nasya (toxin elimination through the nose), and rakta moksha (detoxification of the blood).

Do I have to do all five therapies?
Variables such as your constitution and imbalances will dictate which therapies you receive.

Can pregnant women, elderly, and very sick people do PK?
While PK is a therapy that improves one’s health, it can be contraindicated for certain populations for various reasons. Pregnant women, elderly, and very sick people should not participate in PK.

Does PK promote weight loss?
Yes, it does but it is just one positive side effect resulting from the treatments which greatly improve health on many levels.

How long does PK last?
PK lasts anywhere from 7–30 days. The needs of the individual will indicate the length of the treatment plan required.

What if I can’t take 30 days off from work to do PK?
You will still reap tremendous rewards for your health with shorter amounts of time spent in PK treatment.

Does PK treat diseases like arthritis, high cholesterol, diabetes, anxiety, and depression?
Yes, PK addresses all disease conditions and is used preventatively as well.
