Moving with Grace and Ease

Event Image header

Are you a movement professional? Would you like to deepen your understanding of human anatomy in a holistic format which is directly applicable to your work?

Discover a new approach to anatomy and the Anatomy Trains body map with Tom Myers. You will learn about the role of fascial fabric in physical development, training and movement, as well as building strategic tools (including touch and verbal cues) to support your clients in their physical practice.

Through lectures, experiential movement, partner work and hands on experience, you will:

  • Gain intricate knowledge of fascia and its role in movement and health
  • Learn the BodyReading method for practical assessment
  • Gain actionable tools and cues to support health, alignment, gait, functional movement and intention
  • Understand injury and injury repair in fascial terms
  • Learn how to use breath to support movement
  • Explore developmental movement patterns and their basis for more adult patterning
  • Explore somato-psychology — stress, distress, eustress and the expression of emotion, trauma and retraction in movement

You will take home the skills needed to see and understand bodies, map patterns in the Myofascial meridians, and use manual and movement practices to embody balance, grace and ease.

Open to all, but of particular benefit to movement professionals including yoga teachers, pilates teachers, personal trainers, massage therapists and other bodyworkers.

CE Credit for NCBTMB and PMA.

A transformative workshop to help you access your inner healing voice. Cultivate your innate power to improve your health and wellbeing through self-expression with writing.

You will be guided through a progression of restorative writing exercises — with no writing experience or ambition required. This workshop draws on evidence from up-to-date research and is designed to allow you to discover ways to manage stressful events and upheavals in your life through writing.

Discover how the act of writing engages internal healing resources that affect mental and physical health. Change your stories to change your life.

You will learn six forms of restorative writing:

  • Expressive writing, to remove obstacles and moves you beyond a personal, private emotional upheaval or crisis
  • Transactional writing, to help you take care of unfinished business and convey your feelings, expectations and intentions for yourself and others in a positive and loving way
  • Poetic writing, to tell your story as you wish to tell it
  • Affirmative writing, to center your focus on your best qualities
  • Legacy writing, to share your values, life lessons and epiphanies with others
  • Mindful writing, using six aspects of mindfulness to structure your written explorations

You will go home with the knowledge and practice to incorporate the healing power of writing into your everyday life, and a collection of 24 writing prompts to use as practical starting points.

Finding your Purpose, Passion and Power

event image header

Do you have a clear sense of life purpose? Do you understand your relationship with power — true, spiritual power — in a way that allows you to harness and direct it? What are you passionate about?

This workshop will help you answer these questions as you learn and apply shamanic practices which can be integrated into your life and work.

Deepen your experience and understanding of shamanic realities and discover how these ancient earth-based spiritual practices can be woven into the fabric of your life.

Through personal and partner practice, nature walks, lecture, discussion and practical workshops you will:

  • Discover and experience the four ways of inducing the shamanic state of consciousness
  • Journey to non-ordinary reality (NOR) for guidance and healing
  • Experience a Shamanic Breathwork session
  • Understand your soul’s true purpose, and learn how to embrace and express it in your life’s mission
  • Learn how to receive accurate guidance from the spirits of nature

You will go home with a profound sense of rejuvenation and enthusiasm, ready to seamlessly integrate shamanic principles and practices into your daily life.

Items to bring: a drum or rattle (if you have one); an eye mask; a yoga mat.

Meet Your Inner Goddess

Event Image Header

As women, we are often expected to put our true selves aside at an early age. Over time we may forget who we really are; what ignites your soul? What feeds your passion and creativity, and what inspires your spirit to dance?

The Women’s Self Embodiment Retreat will allow you to set your conditioning aside and embrace an opportunity to embody your true self. This retreat is an invitation to reclaim your soul’s passion and explore through your connection to nature, sound, art, conscious movement and sacred goddess circles.

Through daily yoga, conscious dance, sacred Incan teachings and ceremonies, guided meditations and Reiki, nature walks, a full day painting workshop, and sacred goddess circles, you will:

New Year’s Yoga Remix

By AOLRC
December 19, 2018

Experience the power of “sonic yoga” and a natural high like no other. Yoga Remix is an uplifting, interactive dance party featuring live music with the world-renowned band, Butterthief, who combine the ancient yogic practice of singing “mantras” (sacred healing sounds) with modern rock and electronic dance music. Start the New Year with a bang and take a New Years Resolution with the Sangha!!

What is Yoga Remix?

Yoga Remix, Mind-Body Dance Party, is a revolutionary new way to celebrate while connecting deeply with your self.  The event is substance free and a great example of how you can let go, be free and have the time of your life on a natural high. It’s a fresh combination of live music, dance, yoga and meditation.  The evening kicks off with a rhythmic, connective yoga practice.  It then moves into an ecstatic dance party like no other featuring explosive dance-rock chant fusion with the internationally renowned band, Butterthief.  After that, it flows seamlessly into a deep, guided meditation practice and ends on a high note with more singing and dancing.  Butterthief, who has performed everywhere from Lincoln Center to the Bonnaroo Festival, puts a modern twist on ancient Sanskrit chants which are known for their healing qualities. The evening is presented a division of the Art of Living Foundation, the largest volunteer-run not-for-profit in the world. Yoga Remix is a sister event of Yoga Rave and these events have been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Flavorpill and more.

Who is Butterthief?

Formed in 2005 in New York City, Butterthief plays an explosive mix of indie rock peppered with dance and new wave, fused with ancient Sanskrit chants. They put a unique and modern spin on Kirtan, an age-old Indian practice of call and response chanting set to music. The band started out playing at yoga studios, quickly gained popularity and have performed everywhere from: Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, to the United Nations, to the Bonnaroo Festival and Yoga Journal Conference.Butterthief consists of Manish Tandon (vocals & guitar), Mary Walker (vocals), Joey Repice (drums), and has appeared in NPR, the New York Times, ABC News, TV Asia and the Wall Street Journal.

Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE for another time.

Meditation Retreat

Calm the Mind, Effortlessly

Have you ever wondered what prevents each of us from living each moment fully and with joy? Often, we may feel that the mind is just too busy, too tired or too overwhelmed by thoughts. However, a simple, powerful technique of meditation can quickly calm the mind. Even if you feel like you cannot meditate or are often overwhelmed by your “monkey mind”, millions of meditators have found it is possible to experience a calm and centered mind on a regular basis.

Truthfully, anyone can learn to meditate. The key to success is a powerful technique, experienced guidance and some practice. In the Meditation Retreat, you are offered all this — you work personally with an experienced teacher, learn a technique you can practice at home, and receive individual guidance during the critical first few days of practice. After the retreat, you will have the knowledge and experience to calm your mind and launch a lifelong practice.

  • Access deep rest and greater energy effortlessly on a regular basis
  • Tap into greater creativity and intuition
  • Experience a calm and centered state of mind in the midst of your daily routine and responsibilities
  • Explore your potential for inner peace

This is the experience of Sahaj Samadhi, an ancient tradition of meditation and wisdom.

Experiences

“It brought me to what I called an inevitable meditative state that I haven’t been able to achieve trying to meditate on my own, by reading books and listening to guided meditations. It was more meaningful, more helpful, more profound than I expected.”
— Jack H., Teacher

“I tried many meditation techniques over six years before coming to this practice. This technique has made all the difference. The impact is immediate, and the practice is enjoyable and doesn’t take a lot of time. It’s exactly what I needed.”
— Sean K., Writer

“After taking the course I feel an overall improvement in my energy although I sleep much less than I used to. I’m also more present for the everyday moments of my life and in my relationships with friends and family. I find that I’ve become a lot calmer and less reactive to events that would have bothered me before and have even noticed an increase in my creativity.”
— Raphael T., Branding and Marketing

Personal Guidance and Ongoing Support

The Meditation Retreat begins on Friday evening with personal instruction from a certified teacher. Many people have found that learning in person makes a huge difference over learning online, due to the experiential nature of meditation. Over the next few days, you’ll enjoy interactive sessions with plenty of time to ask questions and practice. After the weekend, your teacher will continue to be available to answer your questions about your practice, even after the course!

A Practice to Enjoy

This meditation is effortless and enjoyable both to learn and practice. The technique can be learned by anyone, does not involve a change in belief or lifestyle and does not require that you have a naturally quiet or focused mind. During the practice, both mind and body relax into a state of deep and profound rest in which stress dissolves and inner peace unfolds.

A Retreat in the Mountains

During your stay, you have time for personal R & R also. Whether you want to explore forest trails, enjoy a free pottery class, release stress with a spa therapy or bask in the fresh mountain air, the choice is yours.

Make Your Retreat Extra Special

Combine your retreat with authentic Ayurveda for rejuvenation on all levels, body, mind and spirit. The recommended Ayurveda treatment for this retreat is a Shirodhara Relaxation Therapy (“Shiro” for short).

Silent Retreat

By AOLRC
December 17, 2018

A Mystic Journey Within

The Silent Retreat provides optimal conditions for going deep within, quieting mental chatter, and experiencing profound rest and inner silence. The practice of silence — of consciously withdrawing energy and attention from outer distraction — has been used in different traditions throughout time as a pathway to physical, mental, and spiritual renewal.

This program combines the Happiness Retreat and several days of silent contemplation with unique guided meditations as well as advanced breathing techniques. The first two days include various talking processes, which actually deepen your experience of silence. You will also take home a beautiful practice to sustain inner quiet and peace in daily life.

Why take 3-4 days out of your busy life for a meditation retreat?

These few days make the rest of your year more alive, productive and full of energy. When you emerge, you feel recharged and refreshed, ready to take on all your responsibilities with greater focus and joy.

Get much-needed rest in an all-inclusive guided retreat
Go deeper with advanced guided meditations, silent inquiry and rejuvenating yoga.

Emerge rejuvenated

Your whole stay is carefully guided and crafted to give you as relaxing and transformative an experience possible. There’s morning yoga, nature walks in the mountains, delicious plant-based dining and a supportive atmosphere for your inner journey. It’s no wonder that many course participants refer to it as the ideal vacation for body, mind, and spirit.

I have been to other silent retreats… but basically, we were just silent and did our own thing, with optional classes we could attend throughout the day. But what we did here is so much more. What you guys offer is a full curriculum—the guided meditations, the service, the wisdom, the music—all of this took me on a journey far deeper than I thought possible.” — Silent Retreat participant

I feel more like myself after the Silence Retreat. My life goes smoother after it, and I feel the difference for a good 3-6 months.” — Daniel Moss

It was very, very powerful. I gained such a sense of calm, more than I ever could have imagined.” — Max Goldberg, livingmaxwell.com

Mediumship Development Retreat

By Support
December 17, 2018

Experience the Healing Wonder of Spirit Communication

Event Header

Experience spirit communication firsthand in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment with the guidance of Sharon Farber. She shares the story of how she became a medium through study — and teaches how you can do the same.

You will learn what mediumship is, how it works, and how to comfortably initiate contact with deceased loved ones. Practices will focus on quieting the mind and setting intentions to allow you to begin to perceive and relay information from loved ones in spirit.

You will not enter into a deep trance state. Instead, you will remain conscious and aware while communicating with loved ones in spirit.

Using lectures, guided meditations, hands-on exercises, Q&A, and active practice, you will:

  • Learn about the background and workings of mediumship and spirit guides
  • Ground yourself and raise your vibration; meditate and practice sitting in the power
  • Learn about ritual and setting your intention
  • Address fears and challenges, and learn how to practice self care, set boundaries, and protect yourself
  • Learn different ways to perceive spirits
  • Gain a grounding in the ethics and responsibility that comes with mediumship

You will go home with a solid understanding of mediumship and a strong foundation on which to develop your abilities. You may be ready to join a mediumship circle, or practice giving readings to friends and family.

Appropriate for adults with no mediumship experience, or those with some experience with a desire to develop. Please be aware that good mental health, including a strong connection to reality, is vital. People with clinical depression, psychosis or other mental illness are advised to consult a healthcare provider before pursuing mediumship development.

Register by July 15 and receive a free copy of Sharon’s book, Choosing to be a Medium: Experience & Share the Healing Wonder of Spirit Communication.

*Class size limited to 20 participants.  So register early to secure your spot.

Bio ImageAfter receiving a Bachelors degree in Sociology in 1983, Sharon Farber studied mediumship with experts in the United States and overseas, including intensive study at Arthur Findlay College in England. She has over thirty years of experience as a massage therapist and healer and is an award-winning artist. She is a confident, accurate and ethical medium who gives readings and demonstrations, teaches classes, and has facilitated a mediumship development circle since 2012. We do not recommend using your GPS for driving directions, as many roads are incorrectly marked in the navigation system and inputting our address will take you on a wild ride. Instead, we recommend using Google maps (above). Many prefer to travel the Blue Ridge Parkway route only May through October since the road closes often in winter.
