Lovingkindness Retreat

Find Peace with an Open and Loving Heart

Event Image Header

Imagine if you could feel love towards anyone. Wouldn’t it be liberating to send love to people who have hurt you, or to those you envy?

Rooted in Buddhist tradition, lovingkindness is a meditation practice which cultivates your innate capacity for an open and loving heart. It enriches your sense of compassion, and joy in the happiness of others; it deepens your connection to inner peace.

Sharon Salzberg is among the world’s leading lovingkindness meditation teachers and will be joining us in the tranquility of the Blue Ridge Mountains to share her profound and insightful teachings. It’s a unique opportunity to gain an experiential understanding of how to incorporate lovingkindness into your life with the guidance and support of an expert.

Through guided meditations, discussion, and Q&A sessions, you will:

  • Learn what lovingkindness is, and why it is so powerful
  • Settle into deep, guided lovingkindness meditation practices
  • Learn how this form of meditation can create joy, peace, and compassion; and how it can improve your concentration, connection, and sense of fearlessness
  • Discover how to continue your practice at home

You will take home a philosophical and experiential understanding of lovingkindness meditation, and the knowledge to develop your practice after the retreat.

Open to all – beginners and experienced meditation practitioners welcome.

Bio ImageSharon Salzberg is known globally as a pioneer in the field of meditation; as a teacher, and a New York Times bestselling author of books on various meditation subjects, including Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness, published in 1995. She has played a crucial role in bringing meditation and mindfulness to the West since she first began teaching in 1974. Sharon is the co-founder of the first western meditation center in the US: The Insight Meditation Society. Her modern approach to Buddhist teachings makes them instantly accessible. SKY Silent Retreat

By AOLRC
November 10, 2018

Go Deeper

What could be better than an annual silence retreat?

Perhaps a silence retreat in an awesome setting of natural silence, incredible beauty and peace…
The SKY Silent Retreat in Boone provides optimal conditions for going deep within, quieting your mental chatter, and experiencing profound rest and inner silence. This course builds upon the Sudarshan Kriya® breathing technique offered in the YesPlus program.

The practice of silence – of consciously withdrawing your energy and attention from outer distractions – has been used in different traditions throughout time as a pathway to renewal on all levels. By participating in various course processes specifically designed to take you beyond the usually active mind, you experience an extraordinary sense of peace and renewed vitality that you carry home with you and into daily life.

You will also have time to be with yourself in nature, amid the pristine forests and peaks that surround the center.

Experiences

“Every moment doing the advance course was a new experience for me: the meditation and the silence.”

— Nita R

” I cannot directly pin point it, but definitely there is a big change from before and after going to the part-2 course. I feel I have become a new person, so I say that the part-2 course has been the starting point of my new self. The new me is very comfortable. I feel blessed and very happy. Actually, I feel very lucky to come across a course like this. Thank you for giving such an opportunity.”

Happiness Retreat

By AOLRC
November 10, 2018

Create Lasting Happiness

In today’s racing world, the mind has a tendency to get stuck either in the past or the future. But happiness is here and now. You miss the present moment when you are distracted, regretting yesterday or worried about tomorrow. Yet with practical, self-empowering tools using the breath, we can successfully counter the increasing demands of contemporary life.

During our signature Happiness Retreat, you will find out how to access the present moment and tap into your inner power and freedom — not just as a concept, but as a direct experience. This is the source of abiding happiness.

  • Reduced stress
  • Greater sense of happiness and enthusiasm
  • Less social anxiety
  • More ease in interpersonal relations

In the Happiness Retreat, you will learn to master practical techniques that can benefit you for the rest of your life. The centerpiece of the Art of Living Happiness Retreat is the Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful breathing technique that uses precise natural rhythms to get you unstuck. You will also learn a form of this practice that you can continue at home for further growth.

A Retreat in the Mountains

During your stay, you have time for personal R & R also. Whether you want to explore forest trails, enjoy a free pottery class, release stress with a spa therapy or bask in the fresh mountain air, the choice is yours.

Make Your Retreat Extra Special

Combine your retreat with authentic Ayurveda for rejuvenation on all levels, body, mind and spirit. The recommended Ayurveda treatment for this retreat is an Abhyanga massage (“Abby” for short), followed by a relaxing steam to further release stress.

Pre-requisite: 18 years of age or older

Experiences: Helping You Thrive

Happiness Retreat

“I’m much more optimistic about my future. I feel that I’m not alone. I feel happier, more energetic and just better all around. I just feel fulfilled.”
– Valerie S.

“As for the Happiness retreat itself… Words cannot describe it. Literally. I arrived with 25 strangers and left with a deep love of each one of them in their own unique and special way. I was moved to tears, I laughed, I smiled, I worked, I relaxed more deeply than I thought humanly possible. If you are here reading this, then run (don’t walk) to the program nearest you and let the next beautiful chapter of your life begin.”
– FullPack, TripAdvisor.

“I’ve learned from the course to be happy exactly where I’m at at this point in time. I can feel the lightness and the shine in myself – just free and calm.
– Vera P.

“The breathing techniques that I learned, particularly the Kriya, I found very calming and very relaxing and something I hope to incorporate into my daily life.”
– John S.

These are just a few of the many transformative experiences that people have had in the program. The Happiness Retreat offers not just a comfortable weekend, but a chance for emotional release and inner peace. What you need is only a willingness to explore new things and an open mind.

Research

Sudarshan Kriya research

Independent research has shown Sudarshan Kriya, the key technique of the program, significantly:

  • Reduces levels of stress
  • Supports the immune system
  • Relieves anxiety and depression
  • Increased levels of antioxidant enzymes which protect us from many diseases and rapid aging. [6, 23, 27]

Presenter Bio Image

Robert Peng is a Qigong master who, as a boy in China, secretly apprenticed under the legendary Buddhist monk Xiao Yao. Yao trained him in the martial and healing arts – a training which included 100 days of meditation and fasting in a dark, underground chamber deep in the mountains of the Chinese countryside. Later, Robert discovered that he had developed spiritual powers – including the ability to transmit powerful energy from his hands. Boost Your Inner Power

Event Image Header

Discover the power of your Guardian Qi with Qigong master Robert Peng. The health, quality, and balance of your energy directly affect your experience of life, and working purposefully can transform your sense of wellbeing.

In this Qigong immersion, you will learn how the three main energy centers regulate your wisdom, love and vitality, and how to use meditative movement to enrich and direct your flow.

Through a combination of philosophical teaching, discussion, and physical practice, you will:

  • Come to understand the important energy centers and Guardian Qi and how they impact your physical, mental and emotional states
  • Learn breathing techniques to activate Qi, or energy channels
  • An exercise known as 4 Cycles which originated from the Shaolin Temple, to bring health to the vital organs and strengthen the Guardian Qi
  • Learn how to focus on particular vertebra to support health in the corresponding organs
  • Discover Seasonal Empowerment Practices to maintain vibrant Guardian Qi throughout the seasons of the year and your life

You will take home an embodied understanding of the practice of Qigong, and the techniques to carry on with this work beyond the immersion.

Open to all.

Presenter Bio Image

Robert Peng is a Qigong master who, as a boy in China, secretly apprenticed under the legendary Buddhist monk Xiao Yao. Yao trained him in the martial and healing arts — a training which included 100 days of meditation and fasting in a dark, underground chamber deep in the mountains of the Chinese countryside. Later, Robert discovered that he had developed spiritual powers — including the ability to transmit powerful energy from his hands. He now offers a distillation of his training in the form of Qigong Empowerments, with the intention of enhancing the well-being and quality of life of his students.

Happiness Retreat

By AOLRC
November 7, 2018

The Psychology of the Chakras

By Support
November 5, 2018

Exploring the Deeper Dimensions of Yoga

Event Header Image

Journey into the deep chambers of the Self to illuminate the shadows, identify patterns, and expose the ways in which you are limiting your full potential.

The development of the psyche is a continuous and lifelong process. The chakras are inextricably connected with our true Self, and with the sense of self that we create over the course of our lives. So working with the chakras is a practical route to healing.

In this immersive workshop, you will be able to rewrite old stories, seek empowerment from past wounds, and transform the workings of your psyche.

Through a combination of narrative psychology, meditation, yoga asana and philosophy, pranayama, and journaling, you will:

  • Use the chakras as a map to explore the Self and facilitate profound healing
  • Witness old wounds, trauma and grief from a new perspective – and create new and empowering narratives with which to move forwards in life
  • Examine each chakra and its correlating stage and age of development
  • Identify behaviors which are no longer useful, and learn how to forge new responses

You will go home with the skills needed to process and perceive the world with clarity, and to choose your experience of life without the confusion of earlier pain.

Items to bring: Yoga mat (or we can provide one), a journal, and comfortable walking shoes.

Open to all, but may be of particular interesting to helping professionals.

A warning about using GPS!

We do not recommend using your GPS for driving directions, as many roads are incorrectly marked in the navigation system and inputting our address will take you on a wild ride. Instead, we recommend using Google maps (above). Many prefer to travel the Blue Ridge Parkway route only May through October since the road closes often in winter.
