Individuals becoming prediabetic is growing too, and diagnosed in one out of every three Americans—which left untreated develops into type 2 diabetes. Of adults diagnosed with diabetes, over 87% are overweight, 43% obese, and another 17% severely obese. Being even slightly overweight increases diabetes risk five times, and being seriously obese increases the risk of having diabetes by 60 times. Of all the causes of type 2 diabetes, obesity remains the number one factor. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in America and it “has been suggested that obesity is second only to smoking as a preventable cause of death.”
Conventional treatments come with additional challenges – diabetes medications often have harsh side effects; most cause diarrhea, weight gain, and weakness, and some even induce genital infections, inflammation of the pancreas, and severe nausea, and potentially increase the risk of lower limb amputation. Some of these medications can actually make diabetes worse, especially when they cause weight gain. When it comes to weight-loss, in a western approach, the options are limited and include dietary changes, exercise and activity, behavioral changes, weight-loss medications, and surgery. Weight-loss medications come with inherent risks and side-effects and may lose their effectiveness over time. Also, once the medication is no longer taken, there is the chance the weight loss will be regained. In terms of weight-loss surgery, it can be effective, but it is not guaranteed an individual will lose weight, and there are lots of associated risks.
With such a challenging outlook for those with diabetes and obesity in our country, it’s clear that we need a new approach outside of conventional methods.

Currently, we are catering to Type 2 Diabetes who are not on insulin or anyone that is pre-diabetic or has any case of insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome.
We are currently not able to accept anyone that falls into the following categories:
- Anyone using insulin- either type 1 diabetic or complicated type 2 on insulin.
- Diabetics on 4 or more diabetes medications.
- Recent hospitalization within 1-year with diabetes-related complications.
- If within 6 month had gastrointestinal bleeding- either due to stomach ulcer or from the colon.
- Had weight reduction surgery like lap band or Gastric bypass within 1 yr. (Liposuctions is ok).
- If your mobility is extremely restricted due to weight gain and can not walk, cannot sit or participate in any form of exercise.
- Pregnant with gestational diabetes or lactating.
During your initial consultation with the board-certified western medical doctor please inform them of any current prescription medication you are taking and medical history.
Please discuss your special dietary need or allergies with an Ayurveda specialist. Dietary requirements, such as gluten-free and vegan options are generally available.
