Nutrient Dense crops are the byproducts of well functioning biological systems. The workshop is designed to help participants grasp and apply innovative, reliable principles and practices for producing healthier, better tasting food crops. The foundational paradigm of how plants have evolved to operate in relation to their environments will be covered, along with practical suggestions having to do with
- Seed quality
- Minimal soil disturbance
- In-season monitoring
- Integrating cover crops
- Managing for soil aeration and hydration
From introducing the basics to putting it all into practice, we’ll immerse ourselves with the principles and methods of biological farming. Using classroom-style discussion and illustrative examples, we’ll explore plant nutritional needs by growth stage and an array of troubleshooting and diagnostic approaches to guide you throughout the growing season.
Build upon your knowledge and experience to find ways to increase the health of your soil and crops for greater yields, fewer bug and disease problems, and healthier and better tasting produce. You’ll take home an inspiring vision and the tools to apply that vision—integrating science and intuition to empower practical engagement in the world around us.

Dan Kittredge has been an organic farmer for more than 30 years and is the founder and executive director of the Bionutrient Food Association (BFA), a non-profit whose mission is to “increase quality in the food supply.” Known as one of the leading proponents of “nutrient density,” Dan works to demonstrate the connections between soil health, plant health, and human health. Out of these efforts was born the Real Food Campaign, which has engineered a prototype of a hand-held consumer spectrometer designed to test nutrient density at point of purchase. Via the Bionutrient Meter, the goal is to empower consumers to choose for nutrient quality and thereby leverage economic incentives to drive full system regeneration.

For room reservations, spa retreats, and Art of Living Retreat Center (AOLRC) signature retreats, we have the following cancellation policy:
- Refunds are available (less a $50 processing fee) up to eight days before your program or stay.
- Nonrefundable credit toward a future AOLRC program or stay (less a $50 processing fee) is available if you give notice between seven and one day(s) before your program or stay. Credit may be applied to any AOLRC program or stay for one year following date of issue.
- No credit or refund is available if you cancel on the arrival day, if you do not show up, or if you leave an event early for any reason. No refund will be available if you attend a program and are dissatisfied with its presentation or content. AOLRC reserves the right to cancel a program at any time. If AOLRC cancels a program, you will receive a full refund. Some programs may have special cancellation policies; see individual workshop descriptions. For all other retreats, please be sure to check the registration page specific to that retreat.
