Have you always wished you could draw? Perhaps the process of putting your mind-images down on paper is a bit of a mystery to you — or maybe you’ve always felt that you just weren’t good enough?
This immersive workshop will give you the science and the practical tools to let go of the notion that you can’t draw. Under the expert and compassionate guidance of Lisbeth Firmin, a full time painter and printmaker, you will come to believe that anyone can learn to draw — including you.
Through an intensive combination of lectures, demonstrations and studio exercises over five days, you will:
- Develop the skills of perception necessary to draw with confidence
- Explore the relationship between drawing and the two brain hemispheres, based on pioneering research by Dr. Betty Edwards
- Work through a carefully sequenced process in which you will learn the basic strategies of ‘seeing’ which will enable you to draw with skill, and produce high-quality drawings
- Unlock your creative side and begin to see in a whole new way
You will go home with the technical skills and creative confidence to make drawing an integral part of your life. In addition, on the last day of this immersion, you will create your own self-portrait — which you can take with you as a beautiful reminder of how much you’ve learned.
Open to all. No drawing experience necessary — but experienced artists welcome too!
Lisbeth Firmin is a contemporary American realist, known for her urban landscapes. Her work has been exhibited in hundreds of solo and group shows over five decades, and her paintings and prints are held in several collections — including the New York Historical Society, Provincetown Art Association & Museum, and the Fleming Museum.
