Description

What if true peace could be found in two things you already love—music and guitar? This workshop is the perfect entryway into yoga using the guitar as a teacher for mindfulness, focused attention, and meditation. We’ll also practice gentle movement tailored for guitar players and simple enough for all.

You’ll experience

  • Instruction in guitar playing, specifically open tunings
  • Gentle yoga and Qigong
  • Various guided meditations and meditation techniques
  • Walking and being in nature.

We’ll explore how music embodies the eight limbs of yoga—focusing on pratyahara, dharana, and dhyana—using guitar playing that includes open tunings to allow for very simple fingers so you can focus on emotion and reaching a meditative state. There will also be optional singing/chanting. Music so simple you can get lost in it.

As the owner of Dream Guitars, a lifelong guitarist, meditator, and a 500-hour yoga instructor, I have experienced the transformative power of both music and yoga. Come learn how music can lead to you to yoga and how yoga can enhance music. You’ll take home the knowledge that living your truth creates healing in every aspect of life.

Open to everyone at all levels; no prior yoga experience is necessary. This workshop may be of most interest to guitarists, and yoga teachers who play a little guitar and want to enhance their classes.

FAQ

Do I have to be a great guitarist? No, but you should be able to play 5–10 open chords in standard tuning and be able to strum chords and pick notes individually with a pick or fingers.

How much asana/movement will there be? There will be gentle movement several times a day. Variations will be offered for all ages and body types.

Do I have to sing? Singing is completely optional—no pressure at all—but it is powerful to sing with others.

What do I need to bring with me regarding the guitar playing? An acoustic guitar (no electric guitars, please), a tuner, spare strings, and a capo.

Do guitar and yoga really go together? Yes indeed! We can approach everything in life as yoga and when we do, it will enhance your entire experience.
