Stay In Touch

We all have our own personal darkness: anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, and everyday trials and tribulations. While we are not defined by our darkness, it does cast a shadow over our soul. As wise ancients have shared, “The only way out is through.”  We must work through our issues and fully process the effects of life’s darkness. Like the lotus, we have the unique opportunity to move through the proverbial mud and grow toward the light.

Within us, there is a teacher that can lead us, a dispeller of darkness, also known as the inner Guru. Through yogic practices of purification, self-inquiry, and surrender to a higher power, we can heal ourselves from the inside out.  In this course we will access our inner Guru for self-healing, personal growth, and transformation.

While mental health fields are flooded with medications and expensive therapies, there are many tested yogic techniques and practices that help combat depression and anxiety without negative side effects.

This experiential and transformative course teaches you how to recognize the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety and provides tools for symptom management and deep, inner healing through a yoga practice. Through asana, pranayama, meditation, group process, philosophical discussion, and connecting with nature, learn how to access your inner Guru to navigate through personal darkness and into an all-encompassing light.

Items to bring: Yoga attire and footwear for the nature walks.

All levels of yoga practitioners welcome.

Important note: The retreat is not intended to replace traditional medical and/or mental health care. Students need to be psychologically stable.

About the Teacher

Jamie Martell E-RYT 200
Jamie believes in the magic of yoga, the ultimate in shifting perception within yourself and the community. The girl who walked into her first yoga class is not the same woman today; she is physically stronger, mentally calmer, and has faith in higher power. Jamie has her feet firmly planted in the world, but doesn’t live of the world; she lives in a land of unicorns, fairies, and all things magical. After over a decade of practice and teaching, she is still enchanted with the practice of yoga and how it continues to transform her mind, body, and spirit. She wants to assist her students in accessing the magic within through practice, perseverance, and patience.

Jamie began teaching yoga in 2009 and teaches an eclectic blend of transformative yoga. Her yoga classes are influenced by intuition, humor, yogic philosophy and psychology, Ashtanga vinyasa and Iyengar alignment principles, and the specific needs of the students, creating a person-centered approach. Each student is encouraged to find personal relevance that can enrich their lives physically, emotionally, and spiritually while maintaining the freedom to enjoy the process. Jamie completed her 200-hour teacher training with Dave and Cheryl Oliver at Authentic Yoga Teacher Training and is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level (E-RYT 200) with Yoga Alliance. Jamie is the owner of Our Sacred Space Yoga in Hartsville, SC and Our Sacred Space School of Yoga (RYS). Jamie holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology.
