Hurricane Helene Updates
October 16, 2024
Retreat Center Status and Access
We sincerely appreciate your patience and ongoing support as we continue to recover from Hurricane Helene. We are grateful our Center sustained minimal damage, allowing us to fully restore all services and resume normal operations. Several retreats were rescheduled so we encourage you to check our updated program calendar.
While we were fortunate, we remain mindful that many in our local community are still in recovery. Our thoughts are with those affected and we are doing our best to continue to support our community.
We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Thanks to Our Staff and Volunteers
Thank you so much to our staff, volunteers, and the aid agencies coordinating local relief efforts. Through the coordination of the Wine to Water organization, 100 of our team members have helped distribute nearly 2,000 meals from the retreat center and provided over 4,000 volunteer hours distributing supplies, clearing debris, and supporting individuals.
“It is so heartwarming to see the community members of all different age groups and backgrounds come together with high spirits in service. There were immeasurable supplies coming in one load after another throughout the day which shows how much people cared for other fellow humans. It was truly inspirational for me and I am grateful for this opportunity to be part of this service team of banner elk and wine to water through the Art of Living Foundation.” —Azeem Vasaya, volunteer teacher with the Art of Living Retreat Center

Dear friends,
Thank you to everyone who has inquired about the status and safety at the Art of Living Retreat Center as a result of Hurricane Helene. We are happy to share that our team is safe and doing well. We are incredibly grateful for the efforts of our staff and volunteers, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of our guests and the safety of our property during the recent storm.
Our hearts go out to the local community members who have been impacted by the storm. In response, we have been distributing food and supplies to those in need, and we continue to assess our resources as we explore additional ways to support the community in its recovery.
We are closed until Wednesday, October 9. While the Center remains operational and accessible, the Department of Transportation has asked that all roads in Western North Carolina be closed to non-emergency travel.
We are hopeful that we will be able to reopen next week, depending on government travel restrictions, and we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the storm, and we look forward to welcoming you to the retreat center soon.
With gratitude,
Art of Living Retreat Center
