The Retreat Center is situated at a height of 3,700 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains and spread over 380 acres of forested mountain. Two trails meander through the woodland here, and several nearby trails, such as the Boone Fork and Glen Burney Trails, offer experienced hikers miles of in-depth exploration.

The trails at the Center vary between gentle to the more challenging. The gentle option is a 25 minute stroll through a pretty moss laden woodland and the more challenging hike is a 2 hour (round-trip way, moderate pace) downward forested mountain trail along a winding creek to a small swimming hole (perfect for a summertime dip!).

The Blue Ridge Mountain Retreat Center’s locale means there is plenty to choose from even if you’re looking for a short morning or after dinner walk. From walking the meditative Labyrinth to exploring the mountaintop grounds on the track around the Center, there is something for everyone.

Nature & Relaxation

It has long been known that connection to nature has a calming effect on the mind and the Japanese practice of “forest bathing”, taking a relaxing walk in the woods, is fast becoming recognized worldwide due to the rejuvenating and restorative benefits to health. Our Center provides you with an ideal location to spend time under the soothing canopy of trees!

Hiking Wear

Depending on the season you are staying with us will determine the type of clothing and footwear needed. Mountain weather can be fairly changeable so throughout the seasons always bring layers and a bottle of water!

Spring: Sneakers, light jacket
Summer: Sneakers, layers, sun hat
Fall: Hiking boots (trails can get muddy!), warm jacket and layers
Winter: Snow boots, warm jacket, hat
