Jennie Young, PhD, is the author of the HarperCollins national bestseller Burn the Haystack: Decode Dating, Torch the Duds, and Make Room for Men Who Matter. A writer, professor, and expert in rhetoric and discourse, her work explores dating dynamics, feminism, humor, education, and the ways language shapes how we understand ourselves and one another.
A professor at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, Jennie is trained in classical and applied rhetoric and has increasingly devoted her work to public scholarship. She brings academic research and rhetorical expertise beyond the university, translating complex ideas into practical, engaging insights that people can understand and use in their everyday lives.
Her writing has appeared in McSweeney’s, Ms. Magazine, The Independent, HuffPost, Education Week, and Inside Higher Ed, among other publications. Through her writing, teaching, speaking, and social media platforms, Jennie brings an incisive and often humorous perspective to contemporary conversations about relationships, communication, gender, and culture.
Jennie earned her PhD in Rhetoric and Discourse Studies from Case Western Reserve University and holds a certificate in satire writing from The Second City Chicago.
