Aging Backwards for All Ages

Emotional, Spiritual, and Physical Healing Through Movement and Music

Miranda Esmonde-White

Move Better. Feel More Alive.

Your age doesn’t have to determine how strong, mobile, or vibrant you feel. In this uplifting retreat with Essentrics® creator and Aging Backwards author Miranda Esmonde-White and her team of master instructors, you’ll experience how intelligent full-body movement and music can help restore ease, energy, and freedom in the body. Through science-based Essentrics and Classical Stretch workouts, you’ll improve mobility, increase body awareness, support healthier posture, and reconnect with movement as something that can feel good rather than something you have to endure.

I’ve been doing Essentrics two or three times a week for the past twenty years. As an athlete, I used it to aid recovery and to add speed and balance to my game. It allowed me to train harder and perform better.

—Jonathon Power (Past Participant)

The program is a deceptively simple exercise technique that can gently interrupt and reverse the cycle of pain and physical deterioration. It leaves no stone unturned as every part of the body gets attention.

—Helen M. Langevin, MD (Past Participant)

As a chiropractor, I recommend Miranda’s workouts to all my patients, even those with joint problems. They are safe, easy, convenient, and complete... the total package!

—Dr. Beth Barnett

I’ve been doing Essentrics for more than ten years. I’ve grown to appreciate what the technique does to calm my entire nervous system. It helps me align my posture and tap into a mindful state.

To encourage a healthy environment, we ask that guests not consume alcohol or meat in our public spaces. However, guests may enjoy these items in their rooms.

Our property is always smoke-free.

Yes, we ask that guests with food allergies simply inform us so we can communicate those needs to our chef. Typically, we label potential allergens such as gluten, dairy, and nuts. You may email us at info@theartoflivingretreatcenter.kinsta.cloud.

Thanks to the cool climate of the Blue Ridge Mountains, air conditioning is rarely needed. For the occasional warm day, there is a fan in each room to help keep you comfortable.

We do have lodging and event venues that are ADA-compliant. Due to the topography of our mountain campus, some are easier to access than others, so please speak to Guest Services (800.392.6870) prior to registering to ensure we can best accommodate your needs. We also have shuttles that run frequently throughout the campus.

We are committed to the safety of our guests and staff. Our mountaintop location and the surrounding areas are spacious, remote, safe, and secure.

  • It is safe to leave your windows open—and necessary for proper airflow!
  • Nature surrounds our campus, and it’s common to see rabbits, deer, gophers, wild turkeys, and other small animals. Please give them space, and they’ll do the same for you. We’ve never had a safety incident with animals on campus.

You can help!

  • If you come across an animal on campus or a trail, give it space, and please do not attempt to pet or feed it.
  • There’s no need to bring valuables to the retreat center; leaving them at home is best.

We are remote—yet easy to get to.

The Art of Living Retreat Center offers the right balance between serenity and easy access.
