Open Positions


Three times a day, 365 days a year, we prepare whole-foods meals with the freshest seasonal ingredients we can find. Our priority is to provide our guests with vegetarian nourishment designed to energize and nourish all body types in a stellar dining experience. Meals are served buffet-style.

The Art of Living Retreat Center is now hiring a part-time Dining/Buffet Attendant for its food services. This is a vegan/vegetarian concept restaurant so although you don’t have to have vast experience with cooking with plant-based food you do need to be excited about this


  • Some dining/server experience is required

  • Greet guests promptly, cheerfully, and courteously.
  • Take guest remittance as required and make every effort to ensure a high-quality dining experience.
  • Communicate guest concerns to the manager as appropriate.
  • Clean tables, restock plates, cutlery, etc.
  • Check levels of product in the buffet and report replacement needs to the kitchen management.
  • Set up and tear down cold and hot buffet items as assigned.
  • Keep back dining area replenished and organized (to-go boxes, shakers, napkins, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.


This position is responsible for washing dishes, pots, and pans during prep periods and service, as well as performing any kitchen prep as directed by the supervisor. May also put away deliveries and organize storage.

We are looking for a Lead Dining Host to serve guests in our Ayurvedic-inspired Dining Hall. This position will be part-time through mid-March, then shift to full-time.


  • Assist Dining Room Supervisor in assigning tasks to, scheduling, and monitoring of front of house staff.
  • Ensure guest dining experience satisfaction; communicates guest concerns to manager when appropriate.
  • Greets guests promptly, cheerfully, and courteously.
  • Takes guest remittance.
  • Cleans tables and restocks plates, cutlery, etc.
  • Monitors levels of product on buffet and notifies kitchen of replacement needs.
  • Sets up and tears down cold and hot buffet items.
  • Keeps the back dining area replenished and organized with to-go boxes, shakers, napkins, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a hard-working prep cook to be responsible for setting up workstations in the kitchen and preparing ingredients for the cooking process. The prep cook is required to perform basic cooking duties, monitor stock levels, and take on culinary tasks as they arise.


  • Setting up and sanitizing workstations.
  • Following prep lists created by chefs.
  • Measuring ingredients and seasonings, and preparing cooking ingredients such as soup stock to be used in the cooking process.
  • Preparing simple dishes, such as entrees or salads.
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Assisting chefs in preparing food and attending to any culinary tasks that arise.
  • Supervising food and cooling room temperatures.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some kitchen experience is preferred, but not required

The Retreat Hospitality Manager is responsible for all aspects of the guest experience at the Center and provides support to the Director of Operations. This position also directs and coordinates retreat activities to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximizes full potential with a balanced focus on the retreat center’s mission, guests, and staff satisfaction.



  • Assists the Director of Operations in his day-to-day operations and all aspects of business planning.
  • Assists the Director of Operations during weekly meetings or conducts the weekly departmental operations meetings in their absence.
  • Ensures full compliance with retreat center operating controls, SOPs, policies, procedures, and service standards.
  • Builds loyalty through proactive communication, setting and managing expectations, and delivering solid business results.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly property inspections to ensure property, grounds, guest rooms, meeting venues, and physical work areas are maintained to standards.
  • Builds strong working relationships and communications with retreat center staff and leadership to ensure maximum operating effectiveness and fulfillment of special event needs.
  • Covers shift in all departments as scheduled by the Director of Operations.
  • Ensures that all required retreat center supplies are ordered and stocked in advance of need.
  • Available 24/7 to respond to any guest or employee emergencies.

Guest Services

  • Assists with the training of the Front Desk staff to successfully perform all front office operations and central reservations procedures.
  • Trains Front Desk and Reservations staff on successful sales techniques and procedures for current promotions.
  • Trains Front Desk staff on guest service functions and handles guests who are dissatisfied with the products and services they received.
  • Personally handles elevated situations involving upset guests, attempting to resolve issues prior to guests leaving the property.
  • Performs Front Desk Sales Representative and Night Auditor duties as required by staffing levels and business demand.
  • Monitors guest feedback on Trip advisor, social media, and internal guest surveys.

Dining Services

  • Oversees all aspects of Dining Service or Front of House.
  • Works with the Dining Supervisor to ensure systems are in place for ordering FOH supplies, Dining equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Trains staff in excellent customer service.
  • Maintains safety and food quality standards.
  • Organizes schedules, keeps track of employee hours, and records payroll data.

Employee Satisfaction

  • Recruits, selects, trains, and manages employees to deliver guest services and quality products that lead to achieving goals for revenue and profit.
  • Properly administers company policies and procedures for Human Resources management, payroll administration, personnel transactions, and fair treatment of employees.
  • Ensures retreat center staff is provided with uniforms and name tags; upholds property grooming standards.

Financial Results

  • Supports the achievement of the planned budget by managing departmental expenses within budget; explaining causes for any budget variances and taking appropriate action to avoid future occurrences and adjusting spending to eliminate variances.
  • Protects the company’s financial assets by properly administering company policies and procedures for all financial transactions for assigned department(s). Also, properly administer company policies and procedures for protecting the safety of guests and employees.


Strong management skills, and the ability to appropriately assign or delegate work and authority to others to accomplish goals. Ability to provide coaching, advice, and assistance as required. 

Available to work when needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


A university degree or diploma in hotel management or a related field with experience opening, managing, or repositioning an independent hotel or resort/retreat center with a clear track record. Experience in financial accounting, personnel supervision, and problem resolution is an added advantage.

Excellent computer system skills are a must.


At least 5–10 years of experience in the hospitality industry, especially independent resorts or wellness retreat experience. And at least three years of experience in a senior management operations role.


We are seeking a part-time Event Coordinator to manage the logistics for all faculty and group events. This position communicates verbally and in writing with faculty and group leaders, the Event Supervisor, and the Programming team to ensure a smooth-running retreat.


  • Acts as liaison between group leaders and AOLRC teams
  • Acquire and organize retreat details from faculty, group leaders, and AOLRC teams
  • Greet program leaders and faculty and host Program Space Orientation
  • Coordinate logistics for AOLRC Signature Programs
  • Provide excellent customer service to group leaders and faculty
  • Understand all aspects of campus offerings


  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must be personable, energetic, positive, and enjoy working with people
  • Works successfully in a team environment as well as independently
  • Superior organization skills and attention to detail; able to adapt to the needs of and circumstances surrounding events with a solution-minded approach.

We’re looking for Shuttle Drivers to help our guests navigate their way around our property so they can focus on their retreat. If you like to meet new people and you enjoy driving, this opportunity may be for you.

Shankara Ayurveda Wellness

Shankara Ayurveda Wellness at the Art of Living Retreat Center has an opening for a full-time Wellness Program Supervisor.
