Nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, the Center offers immersive wellness experiences inspired by authentic traditions of yoga and Ayurveda. Three times a day, 365 days a year, we prepare whole-foods meals with the freshest seasonal ingredients we can find. Our priority is to provide our guests with vegetarian nourishment designed to energize and nourish all body types in a stellar dining experience. Meals are served buffet-style.

The Art of Living Retreat Center is hiring a full-time Lead Cook to work side-by-side with our Executive Chef.  Ideal candidate will have experience with vegetarian food and buffet or catering style. 

On-site lodging and meals are available if desired. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce food of the highest quality for three meals daily
  • Maintain a positive, teamwork attitude.
  • Ensure that the food is on the buffet and properly garnished 10 minutes prior to opening.
  • Assist with running food and ensuring that the buffet is properly stocked at all times including the salad bar for lunch and dinner, and dried fruits and nuts during breakfast.
  • Ensure the kitchen is always clean and sanitized.
  • Taste all food that is being cooked and prepped to ensure it is properly seasoned.
  • Assist with menu planning and creation of new menu items.
  • Communicate with the guests to ensure their satisfaction prior to leaving.
  • Order produce and keep the produce cooler organized and inventoried on a daily basis. Assist with keeping all coolers and storerooms organized, clean, and clear of all debris.
  • Assist in putting away all deliveries
  • Communicate any mechanical issues to the Sous or Executive Chef

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a CDP or Demi-Chef
  • Culinary training
  • Experience cooking buffet-style meals preferred
  • Working knowledge of all kitchen hygiene standards
  • Be a team player
  • Proven great work ethic
  • Food portfolio of at least six dishes
  • This is a vegan/vegetarian concept restaurant so although you don’t have to have vast experience cooking with plant-based food, you do need to be excited about this.

We are seeking a full-time Dining Room Supervisor to oversee all aspects of the dining room operation, including staff scheduling and training, setup, service, breakdown, cleanliness, equipment, furnishings, and ordering of service related food and service supplies for dining and special events.

 

The Dining Room Supervisor coordinates with kitchen staff to maintain smooth and efficient service at all times—providing our guests with a great vegetarian dining experience and stellar service. The Art of Living Retreat Center kitchen is run by a small team of cooks, buffet attendants, and a Chef.

 

The ideal candidate will have dining/service experience, a positive attitude and outgoing personality, excellent communication skills, and work well in fast-paced environment.

 

Weekend and holiday work required.

The Cook works closely with Kitchen and Dining staff to ensure a delicious and pleasant dining experience for our guests. this position reviews recipes and assembles dishes whilst maintaining a sanitary kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and cooks ingredients according to recipes.
  • Maintaining a sanitary kitchen.
  • Slices, cuts, chops, minces, stirs, whips, grills, sautés, roasts, fries, broils, and tastes and plates meals.
  • Adheres to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures of food storage areas, equipment, and work areas.
  • Maintains temperature and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) logs as required.
  • Maintains appropriate dating, labeling, and rotation of all food items.
  • Contributes to daily, holiday, and theme menus in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Ensures smooth operation of cafeteria services in absence of supervisor.
  • Completes cleaning according to daily and weekly schedules; including dishwashing/pot washing as needed.

We are looking for a hard-working prep cook to be responsible for setting up workstations in the kitchen and preparing ingredients for the cooking process. The prep cook is required to perform basic cooking duties, monitor stock levels, and take on culinary tasks as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and sanitizing workstations.
  • Following prep lists created by chefs.
  • Measuring ingredients and seasonings, and preparing cooking ingredients such as soup stock to be used in the cooking process.
  • Preparing simple dishes, such as entrees or salads.
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Assisting chefs in preparing food and attending to any culinary tasks that arise.
  • Supervising food and cooling room temperatures.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests promptly, cheerfully, and courteously.
  • Take guest remittance as required and make every effort to ensure a high-quality dining experience.
  • Communicate guest concerns to the manager as appropriate.
  • Clean tables, restock plates, cutlery, etc.
  • Check levels of product in the buffet and report replacement needs to the kitchen management.
  • Set up and tear down cold and hot buffet items as assigned.
  • Keep back dining area replenished and organized (to-go boxes, shakers, napkins, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for washing dishes, pots, and pans during prep periods and service, as well as performing any kitchen prep as directed by the supervisor. May also put away deliveries and organize storage.

Operations

We’re looking for an experienced A/V specialist to interact with faculty and presenters to ensure their audio/video, lighting, and some desktop technology needs are being met. In conjunction, they will support the IT supervisor by providing systems and wireless network support.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, set up, and operate audio and video equipment, including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, special lighting, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and other related equipment for concerts, sports events, meetings, and presentations.
  • Diagnose and resolve media system problems throughout the campus
  • Compress, digitize, duplicate, and store audio and video data
  • Conduct training sessions on selection, use, and design of a/v materials and on the operation of equipment to volunteers and staff
  • Organize and maintain compliance, license, and warranty information
  • Develop manuals or related materials for use in conjunction with production materials or for training
  • Work with the Operations, Marketing, and Program Directors to utilize the equipment for informational and advertising purposes
  • Create or coordinate the creation of these informational and advertising pieces.

Secondary IT responsibilities include

  • Assist in managing the wireless network on campus
  • Assist in managing Updates/Upgrades
  • Provide Support for a variety of office/network-related equipment, including desktop computers, laptops, phones, A/V projectors, networked copiers, and teleconferencing equipment.

Requirements

  • A degree in audio, video, theater production, or similar. In place of a degree, the applicant can have at least four years of experience working in an audio, video, or production field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with desktop support, or related technical experience
