December 19, 2018

Experience the power of “sonic yoga” and a natural high like no other. Start the New Year with a bang and take a New Years Resolution with the Sangha!!

What is Yoga Remix?

Yoga Remix, Mind-Body Dance Party, is a revolutionary new way to celebrate while connecting deeply with your self.  The event is substance free and a great example of how you can let go, be free and have the time of your life on a natural high.It’s a fresh combination of live music, dance, yoga and meditation.  The evening kicks off with a rhythmic, connective yoga practice.  It then moves into an ecstatic dance party like no other featuring explosive dance-rock chant fusion with the internationally renowned band, Butterthief.  After that, it flows seamlessly into a deep, guided meditation practice and ends on a high note with more singing and dancing.  Butterthief, who has performed everywhere from Lincoln Center to the Bonnaroo Festival, puts a modern twist on ancient Sanskrit chants which are known for their healing qualities.The evening is presented a division of the Art of Living Foundation, the largest volunteer-run not-for-profit in the world. Yoga Remix is a sister event of Yoga Rave and these events have been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Flavorpill and more.

Who is Butterthief?

Formed in 2005 in New York City, Butterthief plays an explosive mix of indie rock peppered with dance and new wave, fused with ancient Sanskrit chants. They put a unique and modern spin on Kirtan, an age-old Indian practice of call and response chanting set to music. The band started out playing at yoga studios, quickly gained popularity and have performed everywhere from: Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, to the United Nations, to the Bonnaroo Festival and Yoga Journal Conference.Butterthief consists of Manish Tandon (vocals & guitar), Mary Walker (vocals), Joey Repice (drums), and has appeared in NPR, the New York Times, ABC News, TV Asia and the Wall Street Journal.

Meditation Retreat

Calm the Mind, Effortlessly

Have you ever wondered what prevents each of us from living each moment fully and with joy? Often, we may feel that the mind is just too busy, too tired or too overwhelmed by thoughts. However, a simple, powerful technique of meditation can quickly calm the mind. Even if you feel like you cannot meditate or are often overwhelmed by your “monkey mind”, millions of meditators have found it is possible to experience a calm and centered mind on a regular basis.

Truthfully, anyone can learn to meditate. The key to success is a powerful technique, experienced guidance and some practice. In the Meditation Retreat, you are offered all this — you work personally with an experienced teacher, learn a technique you can practice at home, and receive individual guidance during the critical first few days of practice. After the retreat, you will have the knowledge and experience to calm your mind and launch a lifelong practice.

  • Access deep rest and greater energy effortlessly on a regular basis
  • Tap into greater creativity and intuition
  • Experience a calm and centered state of mind in the midst of your daily routine and responsibilities
  • Explore your potential for inner peace

This is the experience of Sahaj Samadhi, an ancient tradition of meditation and wisdom.

Experiences

“It brought me to what I called an inevitable meditative state that I haven’t been able to achieve trying to meditate on my own, by reading books and listening to guided meditations. It was more meaningful, more helpful, more profound than I expected.”
— Jack H., Teacher

“I tried many meditation techniques over six years before coming to this practice. This technique has made all the difference. The impact is immediate, and the practice is enjoyable and doesn’t take a lot of time. It’s exactly what I needed.”
— Sean K., Writer

“After taking the course I feel an overall improvement in my energy although I sleep much less than I used to. I’m also more present for the everyday moments of my life and in my relationships with friends and family. I find that I’ve become a lot calmer and less reactive to events that would have bothered me before and have even noticed an increase in my creativity.”
— Raphael T., Branding and Marketing

Personal Guidance and Ongoing Support

The Meditation Retreat begins on Friday evening with personal instruction from a certified teacher. Many people have found that learning in person makes a huge difference over learning online, due to the experiential nature of meditation. Over the next few days, you’ll enjoy interactive sessions with plenty of time to ask questions and practice. After the weekend, your teacher will continue to be available to answer your questions about your practice, even after the course!

A Practice to Enjoy

This meditation is effortless and enjoyable both to learn and practice. The technique can be learned by anyone, does not involve a change in belief or lifestyle and does not require that you have a naturally quiet or focused mind. During the practice, both mind and body relax into a state of deep and profound rest in which stress dissolves and inner peace unfolds.

A Retreat in the Mountains

During your stay, you have time for personal R & R also. Whether you want to explore forest trails, enjoy a free pottery class, release stress with a spa therapy or bask in the fresh mountain air, the choice is yours.

Make Your Retreat Extra Special

Combine your retreat with authentic Ayurveda for rejuvenation on all levels, body, mind and spirit. The recommended Ayurveda treatment for this retreat is a Shirodhara Relaxation Therapy (“Shiro” for short).

Silent Retreat

By AOLRC
December 17, 2018

A Mystic Journey Within

The Silent Retreat provides optimal conditions for going deep within, quieting mental chatter, and experiencing profound rest and inner silence. The practice of silence — of consciously withdrawing energy and attention from outer distraction — has been used in different traditions throughout time as a pathway to physical, mental, and spiritual renewal.

This program combines the Happiness Retreat and several days of silent contemplation with unique guided meditations as well as advanced breathing techniques. The first two days include various talking processes, which actually deepen your experience of silence. You will also take home a beautiful practice to sustain inner quiet and peace in daily life.

Why take 3-4 days out of your busy life for a meditation retreat?

These few days make the rest of your year more alive, productive and full of energy. When you emerge, you feel recharged and refreshed, ready to take on all your responsibilities with greater focus and joy.

Get much-needed rest in an all-inclusive guided retreat
Go deeper with advanced guided meditations, silent inquiry and rejuvenating yoga.

Emerge rejuvenated

Your whole stay is carefully guided and crafted to give you as relaxing and transformative an experience possible. There’s morning yoga, nature walks in the mountains, delicious plant-based dining and a supportive atmosphere for your inner journey. It’s no wonder that many course participants refer to it as the ideal vacation for body, mind, and spirit.

I have been to other silent retreats… but basically, we were just silent and did our own thing, with optional classes we could attend throughout the day. But what we did here is so much more. What you guys offer is a full curriculum—the guided meditations, the service, the wisdom, the music—all of this took me on a journey far deeper than I thought possible.” — Silent Retreat participant

I feel more like myself after the Silence Retreat. My life goes smoother after it, and I feel the difference for a good 3-6 months.” — Daniel Moss

It was very, very powerful. I gained such a sense of calm, more than I ever could have imagined.” — Max Goldberg, livingmaxwell.com

The Blessings Course offers an experience of abundance, contentment, and fulfillment. These qualities are natural to all of us; through unique processes and guided meditations, the course brings them to the forefront of our experience.

Through powerful meditations and interactive processes, you will:

  • Learn keys to leading a blessed life
  • Release inhibitions and blocks to your potential

Many people have reported miraculous experiences.

Shakti Kriya

By AOLRC
December 7, 2018

Overview

For most the question comes to mind, how can I be more effective? Where can I replenish this source of energy within? The Shakti Kriya allows one to become familiar with and tap into that source of energy. This technique also can help to further one’s Sudarshan Kriya and meditation practice, and to help one move forward in life.

For example, there is an enormous amount of energy in an atom, but only when it can be harnessed is it useful.  Shakti Kriya allows one to harness an enormous amount of energy within.

How is it different from Sudarshan Kriya?

It is a different kriya, a different technique altogether.  In Sudarshan Kriya, the breath is used to access an inner rhythm and tap into an inner energy.  However, in Shakti Kriya, the rhythm of the breath is not used, but one that is much more innate to oneself.

In addition to completing one Art of Living Silence Course and one Art of Living Happiness Program, Shakti Kriya participants must be in good physical health, as Shakti Kriya is a physically demanding process. Those with certain medical conditions may not be able to do Shakti Kriya.
Medical conditions listed below, but not limited to, may not be conducive to do Shakti Kriya.

  • Surgery in the last six months;
  • High Blood pressure;
  • Knee, spine or back problems;
  • If you are under the care of a psychiatrist, psychologist or therapist;
  • Expecting mothers;
  • Women on menstrual cycle

All participants are required to clear a health screening before participating in Shakti Kriya. Please find the link for mandatory health screen google form below. Please complete the form at the time of online registration.

Participation requires attending all sessions. If you miss a session, you will not be able to continue with the Program without a discussion with the instructor. No refunds will be provided.

Happiness Retreat

By AOLRC
December 7, 2018

Create Lasting Happiness

In today’s racing world, the mind has a tendency to get stuck either in the past or the future. But happiness is here and now. You miss the present moment when you are distracted, regretting yesterday or worried about tomorrow. Yet with practical, self-empowering tools using the breath, we can successfully counter the increasing demands of contemporary life.

During our signature Happiness Retreat, you will find out how to access the present moment and tap into your inner power and freedom — not just as a concept, but as a direct experience. This is the source of abiding happiness.

  • Reduced stress
  • Greater sense of happiness and enthusiasm
  • Less social anxiety
  • More ease in interpersonal relations

In the Happiness Retreat, you will learn to master practical techniques that can benefit you for the rest of your life. The centerpiece of the Art of Living Happiness Retreat is the Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful breathing technique that uses precise natural rhythms to get you unstuck. You will also learn a form of this practice that you can continue at home for further growth.

The recommended Ayurveda treatment for this retreat is an Abhyanga massage (“Abby” for short), followed by a relaxing steam to further release stress.

Pre-requisite: 18 years of age or older

Experiences: Helping You Thrive

Happiness Retreat

“I’m much more optimistic about my future. I feel that I’m not alone. I feel happier, more energetic and just better all around. I just feel fulfilled.”
– Valerie S.

“As for the Happiness retreat itself… Words cannot describe it. Literally. I arrived with 25 strangers and left with a deep love of each one of them in their own unique and special way. I was moved to tears, I laughed, I smiled, I worked, I relaxed more deeply than I thought humanly possible. If you are here reading this, then run (don’t walk) to the program nearest you and let the next beautiful chapter of your life begin.”
– FullPack, TripAdvisor.

“I’ve learned from the course to be happy exactly where I’m at at this point in time. I can feel the lightness and the shine in myself – just free and calm.
– Vera P.

“The breathing techniques that I learned, particularly the Kriya, I found very calming and very relaxing and something I hope to incorporate into my daily life.”
– John S.

These are just a few of the many transformative experiences that people have had in the program. The Happiness Retreat offers not just a comfortable weekend, but a chance for emotional release and inner peace. What you need is only a willingness to explore new things and an open mind.

A warning about using GPS!

We do not recommend using your GPS for driving directions, as many roads are incorrectly marked in the navigation system and inputting our address will take you on a wild ride. Instead, we recommend using Google maps (above). Many prefer to travel the Blue Ridge Parkway route only May through October since the road closes often in winter.
